Workers Injured After Scaffold Collapses

June 15, 2010 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports three workers were injured Monday in the Glendale area after the scaffold they were on collapsed. The men according to reports were working on a scissor lift scaffold in the area near the Galleria in the vicinity of Broadway and Orange Street.

The collapse occurred at approximately 8:30 a.m. according to police the workers fell about 20 feet. The scaffold collapsed after becoming unstable while the three men were working on an external planter box.

The three men landed in the middle of Broadway after the collapse of the scissor lift scaffold according to Glendale Fire Department Capt. Vince Rifino. The three men were seriously injured and transported to USC Medical Center, with one of the men in critical condition according to Capt. Rifinio.

The men were not city workers, but were employed by the Galleria and an ongoing investigation into the accident is being conducted by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration.

According to Capt. Rifinio the scissor lift maximum stated two people at 500 pound maximum capacity. There were three men and they also had a can filled with rock and other debris on the scaffold.
