Largest Baby Crib Recall In U.S. History Set For Tuesday

November 23, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports a massive recall is planned for Tuesday by the Consumer Product Safety Commission.

This according to an unnamed source the largest recall that has ever been announced in the United States will recall baby cribs with drop down sides that have been responsible in the strangulation death of at least one child.

The makers and the amount of cribs that will be recalled have not been released, which will add to the more than 4.6 million cribs that have been recalled since 2007, with the last being a recall of 400,000 in July.

Woman’s Family Blame Speeding Police Car For Traffic Related Death

November 20, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports the family of 25 year old Devin Petelski is blaming Los Angeles police officers for the woman’s death. Devin Petelski was involved in a traffic accident when she was entering a Venice intersection after stopping, at approximately midnight.

Petelski’s BMW was struck broadside by a Los Angeles Police Department cruiser that was reportedly responding to a burglary. According to reports the officers involved in the accident did not have their lights, flashing lights or siren on at the time of the collision.

The accident is still under investigation by the LAPD and according LAPD Det. Jesus Ravega the officers involved had not alerted the LAPD dispatchers that they were en route to the robbery. The detective also stated that the force of the collision spun the cruiser around and it then struck a tree and a traffic sign.

It has not yet been determined what speed the officers were traveling at the time of the accident, according to Ravega, but the posted speed limit is 40 miles per hour.
According to LAPD Cmdr. Stuart Maislin a new policy requires all officers to use their lights and sirens when traveling over the speed limit in response to a call.

Maclaren Recalling Baby Strollers After Amputations

November 11, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports by child injury lawyers, the Maclaren Corporation is recalling as many as 1 million strollers after 12 American children have had their fingertips amputated by side hinges.

The strollers that have been sold since 1999 have been responsible for as many as 12 fingertip amputations from the side hinges on the stroller. Maclaren will send all owners protective covers to prevent children from putting their finger tips near the hinges and are suggesting parents keep children away from the stroller when opening and closing the canopies.

The carriages are made in China and have been sold in retailers since 1999, including Target and Babies “R” Us. It has been reported that the finger tip amputations have increased over the past two years, bringing the danger of the stroller to the attention of authorities and Maclaren.

Marine Fatally Injured In Camp Pendleton Collision

November 5, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports a Marine was fatally injured in a collision that occurred at Camp Pendleton.

According to the 1st Marine Division of Public Affairs the collision occurred at Basilone and Las Pulgas roads in the early morning. The accident is being investigated by the Camp Pendleton’s Provost Marshal’s Office according to the public affairs statement.

The accident occurred when the Marine’s personal vehicle collided with a military Humvee at the intersection. According to the public affairs statement the identity of the Marine has not been released pending notification of his next of kin. They did release that the Marine was assigned to the 1st Marine Division.

The 1st Marine Division of Public Affairs did not state the gender of the Marine and whether their was anyone else injured in the Humvee collision.

Orange County Trains Slow After Metrolink Train Hit Pickup

November 4, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports the Orange County train lines were slowed after an early morning crash.

According to Angela Starr at approximately 6:45 a.m. a Metrolink train struck a stalled pickup truck in the vicinity of Norwalk.

A Chevy pickup truck was traveling northbound on Marquardt and making the left turn onto Rosecrans when it stalled on the tracks, said Starr. The driver exited the truck prior to the Metrolink train crashing into it and was uninjured.

The commuter train had left Oceanside at 5:20 a.m. and resumed its route approximately and hour and a half after the accident occurred.

Laguna Hills Crash Victim Identified

November 4, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports the identity of a woman killed in a Laguna Hills crash has been identified as a 60 year old San Diego resident.

According to coroner officials the woman that was fatally injured in a Sunday accident has been identified as 60 year old Louise Jordan of San Diego.

Orange County Sheriff’s investigators stated Jordan was riding in a Cadillac at the time of the crash when the vehicle she was riding, along with an unidentified 58 year old male driver was struck in the back, by a 27 year old male driver.

The accident occurred at approximately 4:40 p.m. on the Alicia Parkway, according to Lt. Ted Boyne of the Orange County Sheriff’s Office in the vicinity of Hon Avenue and Alicia Parkway intersection.

The 27 year old male was driving an Acura and had a 4 year old passenger, both who sustained minor injuries in the accident.

The 58 year old driver of the Cadillac sustained head injuries and was transported to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana.

According to Orange County investigators the accident is still under investigation.

Three Vehicle Freeway Crash Sends Man to Area Hospital

November 2, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports a man was transported to the hospital after a three car pileup on the I-405 Freeway.

According to the California Highway Patrol the three car crash occurred in the vicinity of the Euclid Avenue off ramp, on the northbound 405 Freeway.

A sliver Acura collided with a gray Honda Accord and then struck a black Honda Element. The driver that was transported to the hospital with injuries was found lying on the shoulder of the highway according to the California Highway Patrol, and the other two drivers were reportedly not injured in the pileup.

Authorities stated that the Euclid Street off ramp was temporarily closed till the accident was cleared.
