Military Collision Leaves Nine Missing

October 30, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports Friday in a Southern California Coastal Marine helicopter and Coast Guard plane collided.

According to Coast Guard spokeswoman Petty Officer Allyson Conroy, the collision occurred at approximately 7:10 about 50 miles off the coast of San Diego County and approximately 15 miles east of San Clemente Island.

According to Ian Gregor a spokesman for the Federal Aviation Administration, a pilot reported seeing a fireball in the vicinity of the collision. It was reported by the Coast Guard debris was spotted from the C-130 involved in the collision. The Coast Guard C-130 was reportedly carrying seven people onboard and according to Cpl Michael Stevens spokesman for Miramar Marine Corps Air Station the AH-1W Super Cobra involved in the collision had two people onboard.

Stevens also stated that the helicopter was on a training mission at the time of the collision and the crew are a part of the Marine Aircraft Group 39, based at Camp Pendleton 3rd marine Aircraft Wing.

According to Lt. Josh Nelson there were three cutters sent out, an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, and the Navy sent four vessels into the area and several helicopters in search of the nine missing people that were involved in the collision.

Radiation Overdoses At Local Hospital Caused By Mistake

October 13, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports a mistake at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center traced to radiation overdoses. According to hospital officials at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center an error was made when resetting a CT scanner, which was used as a new practice for a specialized type of scan in diagnosing stroke patients. The machine was reset to override the pre-programmed instructions to help doctors gain more useful data, with the scan. This would allow them to analyze disruptions in the blood flow to brain tissue.

In a statement the hospital officials have stated the CT machine resetting resulted in a higher than anticipated amount of radiation. According to reports the higher amount of radiation was eight times the amount that it should have been during the CT scans for stroke patients. The programming with a different protocol for the CT brain perfusion scan, subjected every patient that was given this tests an overdose of radiation.

The error was brought to the hospitals attention after a patient alerted them they had began losing hair after having the scan preformed. The mistake went unnoticed for 18 months and after a review of hospital records there have been 206 patients that could have been affected.

According to reports approximately 4 percent of the patient’s have had patchy hair loss and some with reddening of the skin. The Food and Drug Administration after the radiation overdoses has issued an alert warning hospital’s to check CT scan protocols.

Nicole Richie Involved In Rear End Crash

October 6, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports actress Nicole Richie was involved in a rear end crash with Paparazzi. The accident occurred in Beverly Hills according to Lt. Mike Hill of the Beverly Hills Police Department at approximately 2:00 p.m. in the vicinity of Wilshire Boulevard and Canon Drive. The accident occurred when the Richie’s vehicle a Land Rover, was struck in the rear end by two photographers that were behind her vehicle at an intersection.


According to Beverly Hills Police Lt. Tony Lee the actress complained of pain injury to officers at the scene of the crash and stated she would seek her own medical treatment. Lee also stated that there were no ambulances dispatched to the scene and there were moderate damages done to Richie’s Land Rover.
