Maclaren Recalling Baby Strollers After Amputations

November 11, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports by child injury lawyers, the Maclaren Corporation is recalling as many as 1 million strollers after 12 American children have had their fingertips amputated by side hinges.

The strollers that have been sold since 1999 have been responsible for as many as 12 fingertip amputations from the side hinges on the stroller. Maclaren will send all owners protective covers to prevent children from putting their finger tips near the hinges and are suggesting parents keep children away from the stroller when opening and closing the canopies.

The carriages are made in China and have been sold in retailers since 1999, including Target and Babies “R” Us. It has been reported that the finger tip amputations have increased over the past two years, bringing the danger of the stroller to the attention of authorities and Maclaren.
