Armed Forces To Hold Motorcycle Training In An Attempt To Reduce The Amount of Fatalities

September 30, 2009 (by Horatio Algren) According to reports alarmed at the rate of motorcycle deaths of service personnel, there will be required training for soldiers, marines, and sailors that own motorcycles.

The military will be requiring training, assessments for risky behavior while on a motorcycle, causing motorcycle accidents, and they will be organizing racing events that will be safe for the riders. According to the military statistics during the fiscal year ending September 1, 2008 there had been 124 service members killed in motorcycle accidents. This fiscal year the number has dropped to 74 service members killed.

The most recent was a Camp Pendleton Marine identified as Sgt. Adam Bosley age 29, who had done three tours of duty in Iraq and was awaiting orders for Afghanistan. Bosley was killed when he lost control of the sports bike he purchased in August on a San Diego highway on ramp, striking the guardrail and went down into a ravine.
Military officials have stated that most of the fatal accidents involving military personnel occur on racing style sports bikes. They believe it is the speed and the lack of riding experience, along with the inability to handle the high performance motorcycles, which is a factor in the fatal accidents.
