Matrix Initiatives Admits Side Effect Study Not Done For Anosmia

According to reports by Zicam injury lawyers, the company manufactures the recently recalled nasal medicine Zicam, Matrixx Initiatives has admitted their studies on the cold remedy did not include sense of smell.

The studies that were done in testing to determine if the zinc compound would be harmful sprayed into the nasal passages done on animals and humans did not include whether it could cause loss of sense of smell. The company stands by their products stating the tests determined the product safe.

They will now begin animal and human testing to determine if it is harmful enough to cause some people to lose their sense of smell.

According to doctors at the University of Colorado taste and smell clinic they state the amount patients have increased in patients that have used a Zicam intranasal gel, which the FDA has recently warned people not to use cold remedy. Dr. Bruce Jafek has documented cases around the country of people that have used the Matrix Initiative cold remedy and suffered the side effect of losing their sense of smell and other issues.

In February the makers of Zicam formed a medical advisory panel after complaints were lodged a new study findings are expected to be available in approximately 12 months.

Health officials are concerned that the products will not be removed from market shelves while the additional studies are being done, and that consumers might continue the use of these products prior to the outcome of these studies.
